本课特色：大家一定不会对基因工程学这门学科感到陌生。但是以医药、农业、法律三个出发点，甚至从社会、伦理、立法的角度，去审视基因工程学，恐怕是美国加利福尼亚大学洛杉矶分校分子生物学系教授 Bob Goldberg 博士的独创课程了。
　
本课程首先介绍基因工程的发展概况，然后按照基因工程基本技术路线，分别讲述DNA制备、克隆载体构建、目的基因克隆、重组DNA导入受体细胞、转化子筛选和表达产物检测，以及基因工程在相关产业中的应用，最后讨论基因工程的安全性问题和解决措施。其中基因工程的基本原理和一些常用实验方法是本课程讲述的重点。

基因工程是生物技术和生物制药专业本科三年级学生的专业课，要求先修课程：微生物学、生物化学、分子生物学。
